Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or other assistive technology.

Our standard

We aim to meet the WCAGWeb Content Accessibility Guidelines The international standard for accessible websites, published by the World Wide Web Consortium, with levels A, AA and AAA. 2.2 at level AA, the standard referenced by the ADAAmericans with Disabilities Act The US civil rights law that courts also apply to websites, so a business site has to be usable by people with disabilities., the European Accessibility Act and AODAAccessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Ontario's accessibility law; it requires many organizations' websites to meet the accessibility guidelines at level AA..

On top of that, we meet five level AAA criteria:

  • 2.3.3 Animation from Interactions: motion started by an interaction is turned off when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • 2.4.9 Link Purpose: every link says where it goes on its own.
  • 2.4.13 Focus Appearance: every link and button shows a two-color focus ring that stands out on any background. Contact form fields are the exception: a black line drawn under the field shows where you are typing, which meets level AA.
  • 2.5.5 Target Size: links and buttons are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • 3.1.4 Abbreviations: abbreviations are spelled out where they first appear.

Status

This site partially conforms to WCAG 2.2 AA: most of it conforms, and the parts that don't yet are listed under known limitations.

How we check

Every change to the site is tested automatically in Chrome, Safari and Firefox before it is published, including headings and landmarks, text alternatives, color contrast, keyboard focus, target sizes, reduced motion, and that every page fits a screen 320px wide without scrolling sideways. We also check keyboard use and focus order by hand.

Known limitations

  • The spam check on the contact form is provided by a third party.
